ERD “In the History of the War” Pullover Hoodie — Black

The sentence doesn’t finish. It just says: my role.

Black ground, white printing only. The front opens with E·R·D in spaced letters above a horizontal documentary photograph — a figure at a machine or a desk, the image high-contrast and close-cropped, the visual grammar of a wartime file photo or an industrial record. Small text surrounds the image. The whole composition reads as a document with an attached exhibit.

The back carries a large medallion — a circular seal scaled up to fill the back panel. At the center, a male portrait, formal and frontal, the kind of face that appears on official identification or military commendation records. Circling the portrait, running around the inner rim of the seal, the text: IN THE HISTORY OF THE WAR MY ROLE. The sentence ends there. What the role was — soldier, strategist, victim, witness, collaborator — is not written. The seal does not say. Above the medallion, a flag and a standing figure are layered over the composition, the imagery of official ceremony placed on top of official record.

A medal is awarded for a role performed. This is a medal for a role unnamed. ERD prints the citation without filling in the blank, then puts it on a hoodie and sells it. The wearer carries the incomplete commendation on their back. In the history of the war, their role.
